This playful series explored the craze of kitsch proverb plaques, ‘Home Sweet Home’, ‘Live Laugh Love’, ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’... This project explores my interpretation; the wall pieces were made in pairs and played with opposites. They were designed to look beautiful and uplifting, but the messages were raw and relatable.

I embraced all things kitsch, buying commercially made, Stoke on Trent, floral decals and embraced the use of gold and bronze lustres. Ironically, or perhaps not, these pieces because popular and catapulted many commissions for the likes of 'Home Sweet Home' and celebrity plaques.

​‘Hope & Despair’ (2012) demonstrates how fragile emotions are; it just takes a knock of the scales. Although opposites, there is not one without the other; there is no Hope without Despair.
